Aaron Burdette and Band were at Mountain Soul last night. Aaron is from Saluda, NC and the stories told in his songs paint pictures of life in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Listed as one of the top 10 most important musicians of Western North Carolina (WNC Magazine) Aaron’s songs have been winning prizes around the state. In October of 2012 Aaron’s song, “Going Home To Carolina” won first prize in the Our State Magazine’s “singer/songwriter contest”. The Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest awarded Aaron third prize for his song, “Magpie” in 2013. Aaron and his band are on tour in NC, CO and WY this summer as he promotes his seventh album, “Refuge”. They will be back in Sparta, NC for “Music on the Main” October 6.
Last evening’s worship theme was “Everything Sacred”. Christ Church rector, The Rev. Stephanie Parker, led the worship. Sacramental moments happen in the midst of the most mundane, or the most crucial events. A box of chocolates, or a song on the radio can become the outward sign of an inward and spiritual grace in our life. Aaron Burdett picked up on this theme in many of the songs he sang. Here is a bit of the music from last night:
Mountain Soul is a mission of Christ Episcopal Church in Sparta, NC. It is an open space for all the people of this mountain community to engage in worship that is centered in music.
